Guatemala - Worldwide Culture Swap package

Thank you to Paula from Growing Up Bilingual for sharing the Guatemalan package that she put together with her family for the Worldwide Culture Swap!

Paula describes what was included:

  • A booklet with Guatemala attractions and facts
  • “All About Us” a little info about our family
  • Guatemala coloring pages Our favorite Guatemalan recipes
  • A handmade friendship bracelet
  • A pen and note pad covered in typical Guatemalan textiles
  • A little doll dressed in traditional Mayan clothes
  • A handmade beaded keychain of a Guatemalan native species
  • A handmade star ornament
  • A handmade quetzal (national bird) ornament
  • A magnet with image of a painting of either a colonial or Mayan city in Guatemala
  • A DVD with some videos of Guatemala, it’s fauna, some traditional music played on our traditional instrument the Marimba and our national anthem which is considered to be one of the most beautiful national anthems in the world.
  • Refried red beans, one of the food staples in Guatemala. We eat it as a dip with chips, make a sandwich with it, spread it on a tortilla or for breakfast alongside scrambled eggs and fresh cream.
  • Pictures of some of the people I bought the handmade crafts from :)
  • Guatemalan coins 1 Quetzal and 50 cents
Paula, I don't quite know where to begin - this is just a brilliant example of how a package can demonstrate a country's culture!

If you want to know more about these swaps and how you can take part, have a look at the Worldwide Culture Swap page.

Send us a link to your blog posts related to worldwide culture and we will feature them on the site, include a link back to your site and of course give you full credit.  Take a look at our monthly Culture Swapper Link Up for information.
